There's a scene in the movie High Fidelity where John Cusak is re-organizing his collection "autobiographically." I'm not quite that ambitious, but I do have a couple of different sections for records in my house. My main collection - my keepers - are alphabetical with compilations and oddball stuff at the end. Records that I sell at flea markets I keep out in the garage (about 12 crates of stuff), and then there is a pile of records I have that i don't know if I'm keeping or not that I need to listen to. How is your collection organized?

Genre. Alphabetical would be a clusterfuck of randomness!
I also have a section of "outsider music" and "soundtracks".

Alphabetical is the way I keep my collection. The thing with genre is that there are some artists and bands that are crossover. Where do you file Motorhead ? What genre is Sun Ra ?
