Yes, I know that they aren't very good tables but I wanted something that spins at 78 RPM so at least I would have the option to play 78s. I also wanted a portable player. I picked up this Crosley Cruiser today at Target, plugged it in and could not get it to spin. I took the tonearm and cocked it back to the right until I heard a "click" - which sometimes works with these tables, and still nothing. The only way I could get it to spin was by shutting off the auto-stop feature. I played a couple of records and noticed an annoying waver in the pitch of the music. I called customer support about the auto-stop feature not working and the girl I spoke to didn't really know what she was talking about either. This thing is going back tomorrow. Too many issues already for a brand new turntable.

What a bummer. No wonder 78s aren't a popular format.

Crosleys are horrible. They're tempting because of the different retro styles available, but I've never heard a single one that didn't make my teeth hurt. Fingers on chalk boards don't sound much better! And that they have a 78 speed is pretty funny because as far as I know you cannot use the same stylus that you would with a regular record because 78s weren't made using vinyl. You would wind up destroying the needle.

I bought myself a Dansette because none of my Record players play 78’s.. next step, buy some!
